Volunteering:
BSAA volunteers are required to agree to a Police Security Clearance check, possess a valid BSAA membership ($2 / year), and are encouraged to commit six months of service. BSAA will provide orientation and training to all volunteers. Current BSAA volunteer opportunities include:
Escorted Transportation: Volunteer drivers are urgently needed to escort seniors to social events, agency programs, medical appointments and banking.
Friendly Visitor: A volunteer will be matched with a frail, isolated and/or housebound senior to provide companionship through regular social visits.
Telephone Reassurance: A volunteer will be matched with a an isolated and lonely senior to develop an on-going relationship and to check on the senior’s well being through regular phone calls.
Program Assistant: A volunteer is needed to help isolated seniors to plan and participate in social events that will provide them with opportunities to become more connected to their communities.
Other opportunities: Volunteers are needed to assist in the office, serve on our board, and to help with event planning and Income Tax Clinics.
Membership: BSAA membership ensures that members have the opportunity to have their voices heard as well as have a say in policy changes and organization direction. Additionally, members will receive a bi-annual newsletter and educational opportunities dealing with seniors' concerns.
Membership Benefits include:
Full Member - Vote at membership meetings, may nominate board members, and are eligible to hold office.
A full member must reside within the City of Calgary and pay the Annual membership fee of $2 per year.
Associate Member - May nominate board members, and are eligible to hold office.
An Associate member is open to individuals, agencies, associations, programs, corporations, or partnerships interested in promoting and supporting the initiatives of the BSAA. An Affiliate member is a non-voting member.
