About US
The Agency: The BSAA is a client directed association serving the senior population in Calgary's greater northwest area.
The Vision: The agency has a preventative and wellness focus and works to enable its clients to maintain or increase their quality of life and live as independently as possible in the community, with dignity and respect, as long as they are able and choose to do so.
The People: Incorporated under the Societies Act of the Province of Alberta in 1982, the BSAA has a volunteer Board of Directors, comprised mainly of seniors who live in the area. The BSAA employs outreach workers who, along with the board, actively seek out seniors in need. Additionally, the BSAA receives hundreds of hours of assistance from volunteers who play an active and vital role in the delivery of its services.
The Need: Frail and isolated seniors in the community often have multiple issues that put them at risk. These may include:
- limited resources
- social isolation
- terminal Illnesses
- changing living situation
- loss of health, partners, independence or dignity
- access to affordable housing
- unsafe living conditions
Many seniors are not aware of what services, pensions or grants are available to them or how to access them. Even when the knowledge is provided, they are often unable to begin and/or complete the process independently. The BSAA assesses each situation and then provides the individual and/or their family or friends with the appropriate information, referrals, support or advocacy required.
